"My condition doesn't define me."

Rejected at TUT ( Tshwane University of Technology) musical theatre, Nkosinati followed his dream of becoming a journalist. Nkosinathi Sikosana (20) from Kwa-Zulu Natal, born on the 26th day of September 1995,with a condition called Cerebral Palsy six months before time.

Cerebral Palsy which affects the movement of bones by making them stiff is dominant on the left hand side of his body and has affected his IQ.

In the year 2015 when he completed his matric, Nkosinathi wanted to work in theatre for the love of singing, writing and dancing. However, he was rejected due to his condition as working in theatre includes indulging the body in different body movements, but that never stopped him from chasing his dreams.

" I got rejected for musical theatre at TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) and since I am a vocalist and an artist I chose the journalistic path in order not to lose my artistic side completely since it has creative elements."- said Nkosinathi.

He is now studying his first year in Journalism at a private institution.

"My condition hasn't affected me that much, but it has affected my love life. Like it takes a lot for me to go to a girl or to get involved in a relationship because of self-doubt in a way too. It’s not really about how people treat me, but about how I see myself."-added Nkosinathi.

Him overall being a positive person, has never been to a school that caters for people with his condition, but went to what we may call normal schools and no one has really treated him in a bad way. In fact, people have always treated him like everybody else.

“I love signing, theatre, I am a writer, and a vocalist. I am still maturing as a person. I am open minded and love being around people. My condition doesn't define me. I am open to almost anything and to any kind of person. My condition doesn't really define me. It’s just something that is there. It’s like a disease and you just have to live with it," He said.

“I currently have two songs out, Lioness ft. Mr shem and Change. Change is a song about overcoming your fears. My stage name is Jazzthevocalist. I am also starting a contemporary gospel band by the name the Cornerstone."

Nkosinathi recently joined a Pretoria movement that wants to grow poetry within the arts in Pretoria.

"This movement keeps getting better and better especially since it is runned by young folks. These are people that inspire me as they are doing amazing things"- Nkosinathi.

"The Nathi Singabantu programme for the disabled currently in KZN on vide FM has showed me that opportunities are limitless even for people like me,” said Nkosianthi.
